New 2013 NFL Mock Draft

Lots of big changes in my newest 2013 NFL Mock Draft. Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas has disappointed, so I have ruled him out at this point as an early entry and he's off the board. I have taken all my running backs out of the first round, not because I think a player like South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore isn't talented, just no in demand compared to the other talent in the draft.

Curt's Big 32 for the 2013 NFL Draft-UPDATED

Please keep in mind, this is my list of who I like.  This has nothing to do with predicting where they will be drafted.   If I were an NFL GM, if all positions were on the board, this would be my top 32 guys. You couldn't really go wrong with any of these guys, but don't be shocked that my order doesn't fall in line with what most believe.

Obviously I reserve the right to make changes to this as the season goes on, and it is of course a fluid list.

BCS committee approves 4 team football playoff-The Implications

Well the cry went out, give the people what they wanted, and what people wanted in Division I college football was a playoff. And yesterday the commissioners from every BCS conference announced they had reached concensus on a 4 team playoff that will begin for the 2014-2015 season.

The current system, the BCS has been in place since 1998 and been a constant source of debate and controversy, and for most college football fans a source of frustration. While all details have not been released in terms of where the BCS will be starting in 2014, disgruntled fans can be assured BCS monster that has caused them so much stress will no longer exist.

Sunday Morning Mail Sack

I've been getting some great emails from readers about the new site and just some excellent questions and comments. So every Sunday morning I am going to reach in the Mail Sack and answer a few.

Why didn’t the Chiefs draft a quarterback in the first round?

College Football Pre-Season Top 25

Preseason Top 25

1. Alabama-Even with their losses, they are still so talented on both sides of the football.

2. USC-Probably a national title contender last year if not for their sanctions. Should be in the thick of it all year long.

3. LSU-Another team that took significant losses in terms of personnel but looks ready to reload.

4. Oklahoma-There are questions on both sides of the football, but you can’t deny the passing attack promises to be explosive.

5. Oregon-This ranking could change greatly if the Ducks struggle to find someone to step in for Darron Thomas at quarterback.

Curt's Heisman Hopefuls for the 2012 College Football Season

I tell myself every year that I am not going to do this. And every year I do it anyway. I’ve voiced my opinion about the “value” of the Heisman Trophy many times so I will save the keystrokes. But in my old age what I have come to understand is that it has its place in college football, just as bowl games do.

First Round Breakdown - The Runningbacks

When it comes to the NFL Draft, Runningbacks are sort of an enigma and for the 2011 NFL draft that's unlikely to change. There is no position in the draft that is more under valued than Runningback. You only see a handful of players who earn a pick in the first round and for the most part those that do have done so because of some rare physical gifts or ridiculous career numbers. Even then it can be rare to see them drafted very high, despite the difference a great RB can make to a team in the NFL. With more and more NFL teams preferring a platoon situation you're not likely to see 3 guys fly off the board inside the Top 15. With an 18 game season a big possibility as well,  the days of the every down RB might be gone forever.

Predicting all the Bowl Games

Let's roll through the Bowls, all 35 of them, in chronological order (maybe). I'm going to lay out who's playing in each one and then make a prediction on who'll win. Yet again I'll point out if I put money on my own predictions my kids would starve. I heartily recommend that you don't base anything financial on my predictions!

 New Mexico Bowl
 Who: BYU vs. UTEP
 Winner: BYU

 uDrove Humanitarian Bowl
Who: Northern Illinois vs. Fresno State
 Winner: Fresno State

BCS Bowl Predicitions

BCS Championship Game - Auburn v. Oregon
As much as we’d like to think that one of these teams is going to fall before the title game, I just don’t see it.  Auburn has a tough go in the SEC title game, assuming they aren’t spent from the Iron Bowl, they are still much more talented than South Carolina and should win this game. Oregon and Oregon State sounds good on paper, but the Beavers just don’t have enough offense to hang with the Ducks.
