Scouting Report
When I watch Davis the
things that stand out to me, aren't about his size. He's pretty
ideal. Not so small that he's going to get pushed around, but not so big,
that he loses his flexibility and fluidity. What stands out to me, is the
big thing I see lacking in college corners. Backpedal and turn.
Davis holds his backpedal, keeps his head up, and makes a smooth turn and
run. He's rarely in a spot where he have to chase, and almost always uses
the correct shoulder. Davis is also fearless, and has not problems getting
his nose dirty in run support. Good tackler and explosive player.
Plays well in press man, which will really help him in the NFL. He gets a
nice jam at the line, and when he doesn't, he has the speed to catch up.
Same goes for break on the ball. Good field speed and great hands.
So you think Davis is a great prospect? So does he. In fact his
arrogance and ego are his greatest fault. No matter how many good things I
say about Davis, he'll think he's better. This has lead to some attitude issues,
problems with coaches, and inconsistency when his press clipping catch up
to him. Could end up a serious head case in the NFL.
Draft
Status
I have Davis as the first corner off the board, ahead of Malcolm
Jenkins. I think he's a more physical player and a much better
athlete. Now, having said this, if you take Davis you get all the baggage
that Jenkins won't bring, so it's a trade off. I think a team like the
Jags will have to give Davis a long look, and hope that his physical attributes
will overcome the potential problems that could come with it.

I'm not saying
Davis is going to punch a stripper and order a hit on anyone, but the attitude
and skills are all there. He's got a great game, and he knows it. He
doesn't take in instruction well, and doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes,
ala Jones. I hope he grows up a lot when he hits the league, but if not, I
expect him to end up in the news and not for a great interception or kick
return.
