Scouting Report-A lot like Boise State, Wilson probably doesn't get the positive press he deserves. He's got good size for a corner, and is built like an athlete. Which works because he is a very athletic kid. Nice straight line speed, good quickness, and excellent change of direction. The thing that stands out to me in Wilson's game is his ability to play press man. He gets up on the line, does a nice job at the snap with the chuck, and is able to keep himself low and trail wide outs. His backpedal is really technically sound, and overall he's a very polished player. This is a good representation of his experience at Boise State. On the downside of Wilson's game, he's not a great tackler and doesn't show a lot of effort in the run game. Also, for as good as he is in man coverage, his zone skills are lacking. It's like he's better when he has a guy to mirror and chase, but he gets lost at times with zone assignments.
Draft Status-Wilson has capped off an excellent college career with a really solid off-season including a big week at the Senior Bowl and Combine. Every year the debate of what order the top cornerbacks are going to come off the board is a big one, and Wilson has made a case to be the 2nd corner off the board and a mid first round pick. A team that wants a press cover player who can also contribute in the return game will take a shot on him.
Final Analysis-The more I watch Wilson play, the more of a believer I am. I don't like the fact that he doesn't play zone well, and that will exclude him from a lot of schemes, but his man skills are certainly comparable to Joe Haden. I love the fact that Wilson believes he can go out and cover any player that lines up across from him. That sort of confidence is a big deal for NFL corners. The fact he's shown really good speed and athleticism this offseason only helps his case. The thing I don't like about Wilson's game the most, and will drive some fans nuts is the fact that he feels the need to go for the big play at every turn. He's going to get burnt on occassion and with that mentality fans better be prepared.
Reminds me of: Ellis Hobbs, CB Philadelphia Eagles-Hobbs has similar size to Wilson, plays a solid press man and is a really good return man as well. Both are confident, almost arrogant players and have similar skill sets.
