Scouting Snapshots-Jarvis Jones
Written by Curt Popejoy on 08/12/2012
These are my preseason scouting reports. They are meant to just lay a foundation for where these players are going into the 2012 College Football season. Obviously when I do final scouting reports on these players after the season, things will change. No guarantees they will change for the better, and I do my best to be objective and pragmatic. You all may take that as being negative, but if I like a guy I say so, and if I don't, you'll hear that too.

Jarvis Jones, DE/LB Georgia
Height-6'3"
Weight-243lbs
Positives
-Ideal size -Long arms -Hammer in the run game -Tremendous explosion off the ball -Hates the players he goes against -Ceiling is very very high -Not system exclusive -Finishes like a train wreck
Negatives
-Technique is raw, particularly in the run game -Only average in pass coverage -Just needs more reps -Injury red flag(Ok, yellow flag)
2012 Outlook
In a very crowded class of edge rushers, Jones is the best for me. He just needs more playing time to prove it. Up until this point he's counted on his tremendous explosion, athletic ability and almost total disregard for his own body or the health of his opponents. In the NFL he's going to have to expand his pass rush tool belt and if he is going to play a 3-4, he's got to get stronger going against big uglies and more consistent dropping in coverage. The battle for the top 3-4 edge rusher in the 2013 NFL draft is getting very interesting.
