Curt Popejoy's 2 Round Mock Draft - 3/17/2010

Written by Curt Popejoy on 03/17/2010

1.1 St Louis Rams Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma
Not my top QB, but with Vick supposedly off the market until Spring, I am back on the bandwagon I founded of a QB to the Rams. If they like Bradford more and he's healthy, I can't blame them for taking him here.
Full Profile >>

1.2 Detroit Lions Russell Okung OT Oklahoma State
I guess the Lions weren't sold on Suh or McCoy, because they just brought in Corey Williams for big bucks, which means no DT for them here.
Full Profile >>

1.3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska
With all the action ahead of them, Suh falls right to the Bucs and they couldn't be happier.
Full Profile >>

1.4 Washington Redskins Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame
The Redskins are still in dire need of a quarterback, and Clausen would be a great addition here. Not sure why more people aren't on board with Clausen, but hey a few months ago, I was the only one with the Rams taking a QB, so they will catch up to this too.
Full Profile >>

1.5 Kansas City Chiefs Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa
The Chiefs seems to be smitten with Bulaga, but I'm sure that Pioli and his tendency to throw high picks at defensive lineman, McCoy will be a serious consideration as well. If it's be I pass on Bulaga and draft eric Berry.
Full Profile >>

1.6 Seattle Seahawks Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma
This seems like a no-brainer type of pick but the decision between Eric Berry and McCoy will be big for them, but ultimately McCoy grades out a bit higher.
Full Profile >>

1.7 Cleveland Browns Eric Berry S Tennessee
The Browns really score here as they are letting Brodney Pool go to free agency leaving a big hole in the defensive secondary.
Full Profile >>

1.8 Oakland Raiders Bruce Campbell OT Maryland
A big freakish athlete with an awesome 40 time just screams to be a Raider. Too high for him, but that's never stopped Skeletor before.
Full Profile >>

1.9 Buffalo Bills Jason Pierre-Paul DE South Florida
The Bills are making a switch to the 3-4 defense and as much that is made of the front 3, the rush OLBs are what make or break the unit, and JPP looks to be a natural to play that spot, especially since he's big enough to put his hand on the ground and hold up against the run.
Full Profile >>

1.10 Jacksonville Jaguars Rolando McClain ILB Alabama
I almost plugged Tim Tebow in here, and come April, I won't be shocked if he's the pick either at this spot or in a trade down, but the Jags no longer have the need for a DE they did previously, so I go BPA here with McClain.
Full Profile >>

1.11 Denver Broncos (from Chicago) Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State
It is looking more and more like Brandon Marshall will be dealt, so adding Bryant here makes more sense, although I still consider this too soon for a player of his caliber.
Full Profile >>

1.12 Miami Dolphins Brandon Graham DE Michigan
It seems Graham is the hot name among the hybrid DE/OLB types, and the Dolphins are certainly in need of a pass rusher. Could be Dan Williams here as well.
Full Profile >>

1.13 San Francisco 49ers Joe Haden CB Florida
The football Gods leave the Niners a gift at 12, when Haden falls. In April, I can't imagine this really happening, as some team will go up and get a player like Haden if he starts to slip.
Full Profile >>

1.14 Seattle Seahawks (from Denver) Trent Williams OT Oklahoma
With the Seahawks stealing Gerald McCoy earlier, it leaves them still needing an offensive tackle, so rather than the luxury of CJ Spiller, they instead get the need pick of Trent Williams. Not sure he can excel at LT, but he is a natural RT for now, with room to grow.
Full Profile >>

1.15 New York Giants Dan Williams DT Tennessee
Even with their other needs, this pick makes perfect sense to me. Williams is a guy who can do a lot of things for that defense, which is a unit that got roughed up, up front all season.
Full Profile >>

1.16 Tennessee Titans Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech
With Kyle Vanden Bosch headed out of town, a defensive end becomes a top priority and Morgan is a nice pick at this point in the round.
Full Profile >>

1.17 San Francisco 49ers (from Carolina) Anthony Davis OT Rutgers
A number of directions I could have gone here including CJ Spiller to upgrade the run game, or even Dan Williams to get more depth on the defensive line, but an offensive tackle is a must pick at this point.
Full Profile >>

1.18 Pittsburgh Steelers Earl Thomas S Texas
Thanks to the "Polamalu Effect" this team has to add another dynamic playmaker in their secondary, and Thomas is a perfect choice.
Full Profile >>

1.19 Atlanta Falcons Sean Weatherspoon OLB Missouri
Spoon is the hot name right now, and a fast riser. I'm not sure he's worth a pick this high, but it won't shock me if the Falcons pull the trigger on this dynamic player.
Full Profile >>

1.20 Houston Texans C.J. Spiller RB Clemson
A nice luxury pick for the Texans and easily a BPA pick for them. Spiller brings an explosion in the run game and return game this team is lacking.
Full Profile >>

1.21 Cincinnati Bengals Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma
This pick works because the Bengals love to run, and Gresham can block, and there's no doubt they need to add another receiver.
Full Profile >>

1.22 New England Patriots Brian Price DT UCLA
The Patriots love to draft stout athletes who can move around along the defensive line, and Price is a steal at this point in the first round when you consider he can play DE in a 3-4.
Full Profile >>

1.23 Green Bay Packers Charles Brown OT USC
Not sure Brown is a perfect fit for the scheme in Green Bay, but he's an awesome athlete and has a ton of upside. Not to mention the Packers are pretty desperate for oline help.
Full Profile >>

1.24 Philadelphia Eagles Daryl Washington OLB Texas Christian
Most will look at this pick and say it's too early, but Washington is a prototypical NFL Will linebacker and there's no way he makes it back to them in the 2nd round. Signing Darryl Tapp makes OLB the top priority.
Full Profile >>

1.25 Baltimore Ravens Jared Odrick DT Penn State
This team really needs a new wide out badly, but the value just isn't there, and Odrick is a really solid player who can play inside or outside.
Full Profile >>

1.26 Arizona Cardinals Kyle Wilson CB Boise State
I am not quite ready to move Wilson to the No.2 CB position, but the Cardinals certainly need an upgrade at the position.
Full Profile >>

1.27 Dallas Cowboys Mike Iupati OG Idaho
Not sure I'd take Iupati this early, but no doubt he's a good player. Will compete for a starting spot early in Dallas.
Full Profile >>

1.28 San Diego Chargers Jahvid Best RB California
This is assuming that Jahvid Best is able to be 100% by the draft. He's an explosive player and would be great staying on the west coast in that offense. Not a No.1 back, but with Sproles on the roster, he won't need to be.
Full Profile >>

1.29 New York Jets Golden Tate WR Notre Dame
Love Tate's game and the various ways he can help a team. And since the Jets traded for Hands of Stone Edwards, a need for another pass catcher is a must. Best was awesome at the combine, even faster than CJ Spiller.
Full Profile >>

1.30 Minnesota Vikings Tim Tebow QB Florida
You have to have one wacky pick in every draft, and this is mine. Tebow seems to be rallying the entire draft world(minus me) and all we get is how hard he's fixing his mechanics. So I will drop him into Minnesota and he and AD can run the option.
Full Profile >>

1.31 Indianapolis Colts Maurkice Pouncey C Florida
Cutting Ryan Lilja loose left them short an interior offensive lineman, and Pouncey can play either guard spot or center at a very high level.
Full Profile >>

1.32 New Orleans Saints Taylor Mays S USC
The Saints are letting Darren Sharper go, so finding his replacement would be a top priority and Mays is a fabulous athlete who just needs to learn how to play a little more football.
