Gonzalez is a very polished football player. He's worked very hard to refine the finer points of his game and it shows. He runs great routes, gets in and out of his breaks quickly and finds ways to get open. He's got good size and surprising quickness. He's fearless and in the short and middle of the field he'll go anywhere to get the football. He's Pretty good after the catch, keeping his body tight and making the most of his runs after the catch opportunities. Gonzalez has great explosion off the line and works hard with his strength to beat the jam. Although he's not a great leaper, he does well with his timing and strength to win jump balls.
NEGATIVES
A couple of things come to mind on Gonzalez. First, he was lined up across from one of the most explosive players in college football last season, Ted Ginn. One has to wonder how much of his production was a product of Ginn getting so much attention. Second, Gonzalez was very comfortable playing the slot so it's questionable whether or not he can be an every down split out wide receiver against the best and most physical corners on an NFL team. Gonzo gets criticism as well because he doesn't have that break away speed in the open field, and by comparison that's true.
FINAL WORD
Gonzalez might be more NFL ready than any WR in the draft. He reminds me a lot of Hines Ward. He works hard, blocks well and makes tough catches wherever he's asked too. He doesn't have ideal size (like Ward), but he runs great routes and makes the most of his opportunities. The shortcomings in his game are mainly his speed and strength, both of which can be worked on. In all honesty, I think a team is going to be very happy with the player they get in Gonzalez.
