Weddle really came into his own as a playmaking FS this year. He's got good size, but his strength isn't his measurables as much as it's in his intangibles. He's very smart and very instinctual, which is why he’s such a natural playmaker. Weddle is fundamentally very sound, never out of position, and just works harder than everyone else. Also, he's a very good punt returner, showing great vision, and more game-breaking ability.
NEGATIVES
Like I said, he's more about "it" and that means his lack of athletic measurables could hurt him. He's not as strong against the run as he is in coverage, so he probably won't be much help in run support. I know some folks say he could project as a CB, but I don't think he's strong enough in coverage to make the switch. He's much better in the centerfield role.
FINAL WORD
Final Word – This kid is all football player. He won't run a fabulous 40 time, won't have a crazy vertical and his shuttle times won't frighten anyone; but when you watch him play football you see he has it. Could it be a product of being the best defensive player on an average defensive team? Maybe, but I think tend to think Weddle is just a true FS prospect, born to range out in the deep middle and make plays on the football. He’ll need to be paired up with a true SS (Dallas are you listening?), where he isn't asked to contribute to run support, instead allowed to roam free and be the playmaker he was in college.
