POSITIVES

Meriwether is another amazing athlete, and safety prospect, from the "U". He's got good size, but what sets him apart is his all around athletic ability. He's got very good coverage skills at FS, and could end up moving to CB in the NFL. Rock solid tackler, who uses great technique and explosion to finish plays. He's a very good all around defensive back, who can play any position in the defensive backfield at a high level.

NEGATIVES

The real knock on Meriwether is his size. Sometimes he plays like he's a strong saftety, but he's really not strong enough, and physical enough, to make those kinds of plays consistently. As long as he's removed from the idea of play SS, there are few shortcomings in his game. He will need to get better footwork, and turn in his hips, if he wants to move to cornerback.

FINAL WORD

Meriwether, along with Laron Landry and Michael Griffin, lead the draft class as the bigtime athletic safetys, and in a league that is asking more and more of their FS's, a player like Meriwether, is going to be a hot ticket. He's got great hands, and solid coverage skills as a safety, and good enough measureables and potential, that he could be considered at cornerback. All in all, he's an elite athletic prospect, who promises to be an impact player in the NFL.
