Peterson has explosive speed and incredible burst through the hole. With excellent vision, he's a patient runner, who's able to look for his spot, then take it with excessive force. He's a very powerful runner, with a great forward lean and surprising speed. For a player his size, he plays with soft feet, has the ability to make moves in the hole, but then get loose into the open field and run someone over.
NEGATIVES
He has a tendency to run too upright, which leaves him open to big hits. This has led to some problems holding onto the football and a few lingering injuries. He's also never been used much as a blocker or receiver, and he'll need to expand his game in both areas, while staying healthy, to solidify his spot atop the running back rankings.
FINAL WORD
Most consider Peterson the best running back in the country, and when healthy there's no doubt about that. His combination of size and speed, along with great instincts for the game, and overwhelming power, are impossible to deny. But in order to be an elite draft prospect, he needs to learn to not run as tall as he does now, and more importantly, get through the season healthy...and throw that young Sooner team on his back.
