David Harris is built like a linebacker – rock solid, great frame and room to grow. He’s a smart, experienced player, who really shows his smarts and intelligence on the field. Harris really stepped his game up this year, showing great instincts, diagnosing plays quickly, and looking very quick on the field at times. He does a little of everything and plays very hard. He’s a good tackler and at his best in run defense.
NEGATIVES
You have to wonder, when you watch Harris play, does he have any upside? If not, he's probably a 2 down linebacker, with limited blitzing and coverage skills. He's not going to blow anyone away when the stopwatch is on him, and although he plays very physical, he isn't as strong as his build would indicate, especially against offensive linemen.
FINAL WORD
Harris looked like a world-beater at times this season. If he can maintain that level of play, he could be a solid starting linebacker, but his overall lack of athleticism and his limited skills, beyond run defense, could force him to be more of a situational player. He's a lunch pail type of linebacker, who could be very productive in the middle of a 4-3, where he isn't forced to take on blockers, making most of his plays from tackle to tackle. In a weak ILB class, Harris should grade out fairly high.
