Blades is built like a granite fireplug, with think legs and middle. He's more football player than he is athlete, and that's evident in how he plays. He's very instinctive and experienced. He's a very good tackler, and has experience playing both inside and outside. You can tell watching him play, he's a natural and the game comes very easily to him. Blades is smart and a natural leader on the field.
NEGATIVES
Blades doesn't have good size or speed that so many teams covet. He's not much of a coverage player and is much more of a run stopper first and foremost. He's had to deal with some injuries and durability is an issue. One big negative I've seen on Blades is seeing him in pursuit. When offensive linemen get their hands on him he's done for. He's not a very rangy player, making most of his plays from tackle to tackle, and not able to get outside.
FINAL WORD
Blades is a real blue collar, lunch pail type player. In college he amassed gaudy stats, and was the undisputed leader of the Panther defense. In the NFL though, he's undersized, and a little slow to be an every down linebacker. He should be a day one prospect on production alone, but his lack of measurables will hurt him. He's got great bloodlines for the NFL and should find himself in a nice NFL career, but his physical limitations will hold him back.
