Spencer is a relentless pass rusher. He's built like and edge rusher and plays one. He's non-stop, 100 percent every play. He shows a tremendous first step and amazing quickness. Plays with good leverage and doesn't get overpowered easily, even against the run. Looks to maybe move to a 3-4 OLB position in the NFL. Spencer has shown he can stand up and rush the passer or drop into coverage, which is a big question with any defensive end who’s trying to move to linebacker.
NEGATIVES
Spencer's negatives will vary depending on what position you project him at. If you want him to play a 4-3 DE, he's a little undersized and will need to develop more rush moves to beat NFL tackles. He'll also need to get much stronger at the point of attack in run support to be an every down DE. If he moves to a 3-4 OLB, he's going to have to show NFL teams he can be agile, play pass coverage and move laterally along the line of scrimmage.
FINAL WORD
Spencer came on like a gangbuster this year, really showing what he can do. He disappeared in the bowl game and didn't help himself during the Senior Bowl, but his level of play, this season, speaks for itself. No doubt from me, Spencer's future is at OLB, but that's alright. If he can run well at the Combine, and by all accounts he will, and if he can run LB drills and show teams that he has upside, he'll be a hot commodity come April.
