This kid is all about the measurables. McCauley’s got great height, a long muscular frame and blazing timed speed. He looks like how you would build your ideal CB in a lab somewhere. He's got body control, like a great wide receiver, with amazing leaping ability; He can go up and get the football. McCauley works hard and appears to be coachable. He's a solid tackler and plays very physical and aggressive, even in run support.
NEGATIVES
McCauley stunk all season. He lost his starting job and just didn't seem to have much success this season. He's too much of a risk taker, and gives up way too many big plays. He's got body control like a wide out but the hands of a defensive tackle. It just seems like he lost a lot of ground, in terms of his development in 2006, and his technique and footwork need a ton of work.
FINAL WORD
He looked like a world beater as a junior and opted to return to school, but just got beat on a consistent basis this season. He'll probably still get drafted in the top 50 picks or so on measurables alone, but I have been very disappointed in his play this season. McCauley just seemed to seriously regress this year, and one has to wonder what the real deal was; The 2005 McCauley or the 2006 version?
